“Midnight Tides” is a contemporary shell artwork composed of carefully arranged mussel shells flowing in layered currents and spirals across a circular format.

Deep charcoal, indigo, and silver-grey tones create a sense of movement beneath the surface, where tides gather strength in silence. The composition shifts between ordered patterns and organic flow, reflecting the rhythm of the sea as it advances, retreats, and returns.

Created entirely by hand, the piece celebrates the natural variations found in each shell, transforming them into a textured landscape of depth, movement, and quiet presence.

As the sister artwork to “Obsidian Tides”, it explores another expression of the same enduring theme: the power of tides to reshape their surroundings without force.

The Tides Series

Some themes find their way back into my work again and again.

The tide is one of them.

There is something comforting about its rhythm. It comes and goes, yet it is always there. Quiet, steady, and constant.

“Obsidian Tides” and “Midnight Tides” were inspired by this movement. Each artwork is made from carefully arranged mussel shells, layered to create a sense of flow and depth.

Although they can stand on their own, I see them as sisters.

One feels like the gathering force of the tide, the other like its continuous movement through the night.

Together, they explore the beauty of repetition, the power of patience, and the calm presence of the sea.
