Some works begin with an idea. Others begin with a space.
Every commission starts from a different point. It may be a particular space, an idea, a reference to an existing work, or simply a desire for something that cannot be found elsewhere.
We begin by discussing the scale, character and requirements of the project, then develop the artistic direction together. Some commissions build on an existing series; others become entirely new works.
I create each piece by hand in my Algarve studio, working with reclaimed seashells and paying close attention to composition, proportion, texture and detail. The process is highly precise and requires patience, experience and a deep understanding of the material to bring thousands of individual shells together as one coherent sculptural work.
Whether you are a collector, interior designer or art advisor, I welcome commissions for private collections, residential and hospitality projects, and other spaces that call for an original sculptural work.
HOW IT WORKS
We start by looking at the space, the desired scale and what you are drawn to in my work. You can also share a previous piece, an idea, a particular shell or pattern, colours, references or anything else that may help define the direction.
From there, we establish what the artwork needs to achieve within the space and begin developing the concept.

Once we have a clear direction, I develop the composition and material approach.
Depending on the project, this may include sketches or digital mock-ups to help us visualize the scale and placement.

With the direction, dimensions and timeline agreed, I begin sourcing and preparing the materials.
This is where the artwork takes shape. Every shell is selected and positioned with close attention to proportion, rhythm, texture and detail.
The time required depends on the size and complexity of the work. Most commissions take approximately 8- 12 weeks to complete.

Once the final balance has been received, the artwork is carefully prepared and professionally packaged for transport.
Shipping is arranged according to the size of the artwork and its destination. Professional installation can also be arranged when required.

I review all project proposals personally and will reach out via email within 48 business hours to discuss your space and schedule a dedicated studio consultation, or a video/ phone callas per your preference.
We’ll start with a conversation where you can share your ideas, preferred colors, size, and any inspiration you have in mind. I’ll answer any questions you may have and discuss options that best suit your space and style.

Upon layout approval, we finalize a clear timeline and project agreement. Custom pieces require 8 to 10 weeks to complete, depending on scale and design complexity. A standard deposit is required to secure your place on the studio calendar and begin sourcing materials.

Following our initial conversation, I will provide an original design concept for your approval, followed by one round of refined, minor adjustments. You can easily request any shifts during this layout phase.
Once the final concept is locked in and physical composition begins, any changes to the design, size, or direction fall outside the agreed scope and will incur an additional studio fee.

Pricing depends on size, complexity, and material selection. Once we finalize the details, I will provide a quote before starting the work.

Once your artwork is complete, I’ll send final photos for your approval.
For collectors and interior designers within the Algarve, personal studio delivery is fully complimentary. For destinations further across Portugal or neighboring regions, hand-delivery ( myself ) can be arranged for a calculated travel fee.
For international destinations, your artwork is packed inside a secure, custom-built wooden crate and shipped fully insured via Iberomail or your preferred premium carrier. All specific logistics and freight costs are clearly itemized on your initial studio quote.

Because each sculpture is handcrafted to order using specific dimensions and tailored shell palettes, all commissions are non-refundable. To ensure the final artwork completely aligns with your expectations, we navigate a transparent process together: you approve the design layout during the initial sketch phase, and I can provide ongoing photo updates.

Most of my works are designed to be presented open-air without glass, allowing the raw, three-dimensional texture and shadows of the shells to interact naturally with the light in the room. However, every interior space is unique. If your layout requires a specific border finish, custom framing solutions can easily be explored during our initial conversation to ensure the sculpture complements your walls perfectly.

No. Every artwork is composed on heavy, marine-grade reinforced panels to ensure absolute structural stability. Each individual shell fragment is thoroughly cleaned, treated, and anchored by hand using industrial-strength, archival gallery bonds. The sculptures are highly stable and specifically engineered to endure everything from dry international interiors to humid coastal and marine climates for a lifetime.
