“Between Tides” marks an important moment in my artistic journey.
For several years, shells have been my language. Their textures, imperfections, and natural forms continue to inspire me. While creating this piece, I felt ready to explore beyond the patterns and arrangements I had become comfortable with.
The sculptural oyster-shell forms appear here for the first time in a more adventurous way. I didn't begin with a precise plan. Instead, I followed the materials, allowing the oyster shells to guide the composition. As the piece developed, I found myself excited by the movement, depth, and possibilities they created.
In many ways, “Between Tides” feels like a bridge between what I have made before and what may come next. It opened a new creative direction—one that embraces more texture, more movement, and greater freedom in the way shells, oysters, and barnacles can interact.
Like the space between one tide and the next, it represents a moment of transition, discovery, and new beginnings.
